Upcoming workshops
Lichen in Colored Pencil : Accuracy, Texture, and Vibrancy
Two-Day PNBA Online Workshop with Christiane Fashek
February 24 and March 02, 20249 AM to 1:30 PM Pacific Time
Learn about the botanical basics of lichens and Christiane’s process, from finding specimens, scaling, creating a “botanical cartoon,” to rendering. Students will explore lichen palettes, create color notes, and use colored pencils to portray lichens. Christiane will demonstrate how to achieve characteristic textures as well as where and how to use additional media, such as drybrush and solvents. Participants will be invited to share work in progress for feedback from Christiane during the week between the two Saturday sessions. Workshop recordings will be available for two weeks following each session. All ability levels are welcome.
Christiane is an instructor at various botanical gardens and offers workshops virtually
and in-person. She was awarded the ASBA’s 2022 Esther Plotnick Artist Grant
to teach primary school students about lichens and botanical art. She was also
the recipient of ASBA’s 2023 Lizzie Sanders New Artist Award.
